Naturalis 3 . Christien Meindertsma

In Naturalis vind je een verzameling gedroogde planten, vruchten, bladeren, bloemen, etc.: een herbarium in 3D, op papier en in de computer. 
At Naturalis you can find a collection of dried plants, seeds, leafs, flowers and so on: it's a herbarium in 3D, on paper and in the computer.

Misschien heb je vroeger op school wel eens een herbarium gemaakt. Het is ook leuk om te doen met de kinderen op vakantie, of een herbarium van je tuin te maken. Onderstaand exemplaar komt van het herbarium van de Reading University (UK).

Ontwerpster Christien Meindertsma vindt veel inspiratie in de natuur. Voor Drooglab maakte ze het werk 'Wild Tea Herbarium' van verzamelde planten uit een Nederlands natuurreservaat.

Designer Christien Meindertsma finds a lot of inspiration in nature. For Drooglab she made the work 'Wild Tea Herbarium' with collected species from a Dutch Nature reserve. 

Onderstaande eerste foto is gemaakt in Naturalis. Het is een fossiel van een reuze-zeelelie. De vorm deed me denken aan een ander werk van Christien Meindertsma, Tree Track. Houten treinrails gemaakt uit het hout van 1 beuk uit de Flevopolder.

Next picture is made in Naturalis. This is a huge sea-lily that became a fossil and it reminds me of another nature inspired work of Christien Meindertsma called 'Tree Track'. A wooden railtrack made of one complete beech tree from the Flevopolder (NL)

Het werk op de volgende foto heet 49PRAIRIE PLANTS. Christien maakte een boek van grassoorten van the Nachusa Grasslands (US). Elk van de 49 bladzijden is gemaakt van het papier van een andere soort gras.
The work on next picture is called 49PRAIRIE PLANTS. Christien went to the Nachusa Grasslands (US) and made this book with 49 pages. Each paper has been made of a different kind of prairie plant.

Centraal in het werk van Christien Meindertsma staat het onderzoek naar de herkomst van producten. Hoeveel wol komt er van een schaap, en wat kun je met een kavel vlas. Meer van Christien Meindertsma is te zien in haar solo expositie in Audax Tilburg (NL).
